Replacement dead locks for vans
What you need to know before buying a replacement van dead lock.
At Garrison Locks we specialise in the supply and install of after-market van security dead locks.
However, like many customers, you may want to replace the lock yourself. Whilst this is an easy DIY install we do need a couple of questions answered to enable us to supply you the correct replacement van dead lock case.
It is therefore important to measure your dead lock case and/or lock cylinder so we can send out the correct size and type of lock system for you.
Most importantly, you will need to measure the "Backset" measurement. This is the distance from the front of the lock case to the centre of the cylinder hole. These are measured in 5mm increments and are 25mm, 30mm, 35mm, 40mm and 45mm.
The second measurement is the dead lock forend, this is the overall height of the faceplate of the lock case. Our Nemef dead lock cases are 150mm as standard. If you do have a very old Nemef dead lock case is may be appx 180/200mm. But these are rare and are seldomly used on vans.
Replacement dead lock cylinders for vans
What you need to know before buying a replacement van dead lock cylinder.
Replacing a van dead lock cylinder is easy providing you have a working key. The correct way to measure a van dead lock replacement cylinder is by measuring the overall length of the cylinder from front to back. This is an industry standard way to measure a cylinder. The lock cylinders vary in size in 5mm increments from 30mm - 90mm as standard.
What do I need to do if I do not have a working key?
If you do not have a working key or the lock is damaged the lock cylinder will need to be drilled out to enable the black lock cam to be aligned with the lock body to enable it to slide out of the lock case. If you need to know how to drill out a lock cylinder please contact our technical team, they will be happy to help. For security reasons we do not post this on the website.
