We all know that the hykee lock manufacturers cannot keep up with demand and we appreciate that Ford Transit, Ford Custom and Ford Connect owners are concerned about van security. So heres a simple but effective way to secure you van whilst HYKEE locks are out of stock.
If you own a Transit Custom, MK7 Transit or a MK8 transit heres a quick simple step by step guide to securing your van.
Remove door card, This is done by removing Phillips screws, Torx screws and possible 7mm bolts. This will take no more than 10 mins.
Remove door lock barrel “C’ clip retainer and remove the door lock barrel, This is done by inserting the key, Turning key clockwise, holding in position. Insert small phillips screw driver into lock release hole found on side of cylinder. Press down, hold in position. Turn key anti-clockwise. The complete lock cylinder will turn and can now be pulled back out of the door lock mechanism.
If you have a MK8 Transit or a Transit Custom carefully cut the two 15mm long tabs off the back of the lock cylinder (single long tab on a MK7 Transit) and refit the barrel and secure back into pposition with “C” clip ensuring the locking block is fully engaged and the keyway is vertical.
Using the Armaplate gasket we have provided place this over the lock and mark the fixing points and drill door (be aware of any cables that may be present) Protect the drilled holes using a automotive touch up stick or a good quality sillicon sealent. Fit Armaplate and refit door card.
The reason we have suggested this as a temporary fix is due to the way the locks are attacked.
If the lock barrel is not connected to the central locking system then forcing the cylinder round with a “Ratchet Blade” or picking the lock will have no affect at all. The Armaplate is added to help prevent the would be theives from attacking the cylinder with grips and trying to force the cylinder round.
We suggest that once fitted keep up to date with Garrison Locks on Facebook where we will be posting up expected delivery dates for the rep_Locks.
Once the locks are back into stock and again available you will be require to remove the Armaplate, fit the Hykee Rep-Lock and refit the Armaplate.
If you require a .PDF guide on how to remove and refit your door card please call our sales and tech team, They will be happy to help.
