As you are probably aware, the majority of commercial vehicle owners these days will use additional security measures to protect both the vehicle and anything that they are keeping in it. The most common security solution used across the board no matter what industry you’re in is, van security locks. Nowadays, there are so many different locks on the market, there is something available to meet all needs and requirements.
If you have recently invested in a new commercial van and you’re researching into the different locks on the market, you will undeniably want to ensure you purchase the best lock for you. Before ordering and installing a new lock, there are a few things that you should take into consideration. Keep reading today, the team at Garrison Locks have put together a list of things that all van owners should think about before purchasing additional security locks.
This may seem like a strange thing to ask, but if you’re not used to carrying spare keys and you think that this is something you will forget, some locks probably won’t work for you. Take a van slam lock, for example, every time you close the van door it will lock without you doing anything. So, if you leave your one set of keys in the van then you can quickly be locked out.
However, if you’re used to carrying spare keys or you only work in the local area so you’ve never needed to, then slam locks are a great choice. You won’t need to worry about locking yourself out and not being able to carry on with the work you have planned for the rest of the day.
It isn’t uncommon for commercial vehicles to have multiple drivers and often, these drivers will all have their own set of keys. You should consider how expensive it is to get keys cut for the types of security locks you are looking into, and if it is something that you can allow for in your budget.
Also, consider how likely it is for someone to lose their keys. It goes without saying that really you should replace the locks on your van if someone does lose their keys and this will be more of a risk if lots of people have keys. So, again, consider the cost of the overall lock and whether you can afford to replace it multiple times if required.
Whilst, where you park at night, is incredibly important, also think about where you tend to park during the day whilst working. Do you work in secure facilities or do you spend more time in towns and cities working on domestic properties? This alone can make a big difference in the type of lock that you choose.
Consider whether you need to lock your van every time you leave it, if so, being able to conveniently lock-up will be essential and slam locks may be a good choice. Whereas if you can usually safely leave your van unlocked then you have many other options to choose from such as hook locks and deadlocks.
Lastly, think about what other security, if any, that you have on the vehicle. If it is already quite protected then you may feel as though you don’t need to purchase any additional locks, you could just encase your existing locks with steel plate protection. Whilst you can never be too secure, consider what is really necessary.
Considering everything mentioned above can help you ensure that you make the right decision for you and your vehicle when purchasing additional locks. It goes without saying the type of lock that you choose can either help or hinder your working day so, take some time to consider all of your options before getting anything new installed.
