As a nation of dog lovers we all love to (me included) post up loving photo’s of our dogs. But does that simple post only add to the escalation of dog theft? Dog owners should be wary of posting photos online as this can link owners to dogs in and around certain areas. Last year, there was a boom in dog sales labelled “Pandemic puppies”as people in lockdown craved some normality and company whilst at home. Dog theft rose by 170%!
So how can we protect ourselves from dog theft whilst walking and exercising our beloved pets? We suggest a personal attack alarm. These are a simple yet effective way to alert passers by if you feel concerned about your safety.
Is it safe to leave your dog outside a shop?
The simple answer is no. Whilst we all love to take our dogs out for a walk and often need to pop into a shop it really is not a good idea to tie a dog up outside. It takes only a couple of seconds to steal a dog. And the brazen attitude of dog thieves is such that they would and quite often do target dogs tied up outside.
Dog Trackers
Is there a dog tracker available to help find a stolen dog? Yes, There are multiple dog tracking devices from around £20.00 upwards on the internet.
These are a great idea for those dogs that love to run freely in the woodland and parks and whilst you may feel happy that your dog is running freely having a great time your personal safety may be compromised.
