How to prevent van door peeling “Peel and steal!

23 Jul 2021

Why is it that van doors are being bent and peeled down and can we stop this happening?

I guess if you have a van and you are driving around you would have seen van doors bent or peeled down. This is a common method of attack where thieves literally sit on top of a van (in some cases) and heel the door making a gap big enough to allow the door to be bent or peeled down, Once the door has been bent the thieves had access to your tools, stock and contents.

To help prevent this form of attack there are a few different types of locks and additional after market van security devices that can be easily fitted.
Often as a DIY install too!
High level hook lock can be fitted to the rear door, up high to prevent peeling. Then on the side load door it is common to install a side door hook lock up high on the back end of the door, then on the opposite side there is a anti peel door keeper. This automatically hooks onto the frame once the door is closed. This gives protection to both front and rear ends of the side loading door. Most commonly these are fitted to Ford vans, Vauxhall, Nissan, Renault and a few others are in development.

A hot spot for door peeling is North London and the surrounding area.
WHY? Well we guess that this is due to the area having plenty of tradesmen working in and around North London. But don’t be fooled! It’s not that localised, it can happen literally anywhere!

Door keepers can be fitted in under 10 mins and require basically a torx driver and in some cases a rivet gun, but thats pretty much it. So in 10 minutes you can secure a van with a basic anti peel device. Obviously how locks takes a little longer and are more involved. Often these are fitted by professional experienced van lock fitters like Garrison locks installation team who are happy to help and advise on all types of van security.
