How to install van hook locks

25 Jan 2023

Fitting additional van door locks is relatively straight forward. The installation process normally takes around 45 minutes to fit a Garrison Locks hook lock and around 30 minutes for a Garrison van dead lock.

If you want to install van hook locks there are two main type of locks to consider, Hook locks and dead locks. The main difference is that the hook lock has a greater level of security so these are generally looked upon as a more secure option and may take just a little more time to fit.

What tools would you need to fit van locks
Generally van locks are supplied with a fitting guide to aid installation but the tools required and normally used by van lock fitters are an airsaw, multitool, rivet gun and a selection of drill bits.

What doors should I fit van locks to
You should install van hook locks to the side and rear doors to any van. Fitting additional van hook locks will add security to your van and help prevent tool theft and loss of earnings as a result of theft.
Quite often van dead locks are fitted to the cab doors to help against the theft of the vehicle, so this maybe something you may wish to consider. The good thing about Garrison Locks is that they come all keyed alike, so one key will fit all your locks.

We have listed here the most popular van hook locks that Garrison Locks supply.
Ford Transit Custom hook locks
Ford Transit 350 MK8hHook locks
Vauxhall Vivaro Garrison hook locks

Van door repair plates to cover damaged area after a break-in
We understand that Garrison van hook locks not only offer a good physical deterrent but also a visual deterrent but thieves still try to break into vans even if hook locks are fitted. Why is this?
Generally thieves do not know if the hook lock is locked so they drill the door latch mechanism and unlock the side or rear door. Then they try and force open the van hook lock.
