FrameFit Low Modulus Fire Door Seals Explained

8 Oct 2026

What Are FrameFit Low Modulus Fire Door Seals?

Fire doors are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, but they can only do this if the gaps between the door and the frame are within the required tolerances. During inspections, many fire doors fail because these gaps are too large. Replacing the entire door set can be expensive, but in many cases, FrameFit Low Modulus (LM) Fire Door Sealsprovide a simple and cost-effective solution.

What Are FrameFit Low Modulus Seals?

FrameFit Low Modulus Seals are semi-rigid, fire-retardant spacer profiles designed to reduce excessive gaps around fire doors. They are fitted to the door frame to bring oversized clearances back within the acceptable limits, helping improve compliance without replacing the complete fire door assembly.

They are suitable for both commercial and residential fire doors where excessive frame or threshold gaps have been identified during inspection.

Why Are Fire Door Gaps Important?

Correct fire door gaps are essential for the door to perform as it was tested.

If the gap between the door leaf and frame is too large, fire and smoke can pass through much sooner than intended. This can reduce the effectiveness of the fire door and may result in the door failing a fire safety inspection.

FrameFit Low Modulus Seals help reduce:

  • Side and head gaps greater than 4mm

  • Bottom gaps exceeding 8mm on fire-only doors

  • Bottom gaps exceeding 3mm on fire and smoke doors

Available Sizes

FrameFit Low Modulus Seals are available in three thicknesses:

  • 1.5mm

  • 3mm

  • 5mm

Different thicknesses can be combined where required to achieve the correct gap.

They are also available in two widths:

  • 44mm for FD30 fire doors

  • 54mm for FD60 fire doors

Each roll is supplied in a 5.2 metre length, providing enough material for a standard door frame.

Where Can They Be Used?

FrameFit Low Modulus profiles are designed to correct oversized frame gaps where the fire door already contains the required intumescent protection.

If the door or frame does not already include intumescent seals, Low Modulus profiles can be used alongside compatible High Expansion (HE) or smoke seals where permitted by the manufacturer's installation guidance.

Low Modulus profiles are also the recommended option when correcting excessive gaps beneath fire doors.

Tested Fire Performance

FrameFit Low Modulus Seals have been tested to recognised UK and European fire resistance standards, including:

  • BS 476 Part 22

  • BS EN 1634-1

Depending on the product selected, they are suitable for use on FD30 and FD60 fire doors where installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Benefits of FrameFit Low Modulus Seals

Choosing FrameFit Low Modulus Seals offers several advantages:

  • Cost-effective alternative to replacing a fire door

  • Helps correct excessive frame and threshold gaps

  • Available for both FD30 and FD60 fire doors

  • Multiple thickness options for accurate fitting

  • Simple installation with minimal disruption

  • Tested for fire resistance to recognised standards

Choosing the Correct Seal

Before selecting a Low Modulus profile, the gaps around the fire door should be measured carefully. The thickness required will depend on the size of the existing clearance and the final gap that needs to be achieved.

Where a fire door inspection has identified non-compliant gaps, using the correct FrameFit product can help restore compliance without the expense of replacing the complete door set.
