Post Boxes & Lockable Letterboxes | Secure Mailboxes UK

Secure Post Boxes: Protect Your Mail with the Right Letterbox

A quality post box does more than hold your mail.

Whether you are upgrading an existing letterbox or fitting one to a new property, choosing the right post box improves both security and convenience.

At Garrison Locks, we supply a range of lockable post boxes suitable for homes, apartments, offices and commercial buildings.

Why Choose a Lockable Post Box?

Letters often contain personal information, bank statements, legal documents and important deliveries.

Leaving post exposed can increase the risk of theft, identity fraud or weather damage.

A lockable post box provides a secure place for your mail until you are ready to collect it.

Benefits of a Secure Post Box

A quality post box offers several advantages:

	Protects mail from theft

Keeps letters dry in poor weather

	Reduces clutter around your entrance

	Provides a professional appearance

Suitable for residential and commercial properties

Simple to install on walls, gates or fences

Available in a range of sizes and finishes

Choosing the Right Post Box

Not every property requires the same type of mailbox.

Before buying, consider:

Capacity

If you regularly receive large volumes of mail or magazines, choose a larger capacity post box to prevent overflowing.

Installation Location

Wall mounted post boxes are ideal for most homes.

Gate-mounted models are suitable where access from the pavement is preferred.

Some properties may benefit from through-wall letterboxes or parcel boxes for increased capacity and convenience.

Material

Powder-coated steel offers strength and durability.

Galvanised steel provides excellent corrosion resistance, while stainless steel is ideal for exposed coastal environments.

Security

Choose a model with a quality lock and multiple keys to help protect your post from unauthorised access.

Perfect for Homes and Businesses

Our post boxes are suitable for:

	Houses

	Flats and apartments

	Offices

	Commercial premises

	Schools

	Community buildings

	Rental properties

	Holiday lets

A secure mailbox gives occupants confidence that important documents remain protected until collected.

Weather Protection All Year Round

British weather can quickly damage exposed letters.

A well-designed post box helps shield your mail from rain and wind while allowing easy access for postal deliveries.

Many modern designs include covered letter slots and durable finishes to withstand year-round outdoor use.

Complete Your Property Security

A secure post box is one part of protecting your property.

At Garrison Locks, we also supply:

	Door locks

	Euro cylinders

	Mortice locks

	Door furniture

Internal Van Latch Shields | Hidden Van Door Protection

Internal Van Latch Shields: Hidden Protection Against Van Theft

Van theft continues to affect tradespeople, delivery drivers and fleet operators across the UK.

An Internal Latch Shield provides extra protection where it matters most.

Installed inside the door, these discreet security plates help prevent thieves from reaching and operating the internal locking mechanism after cutting or piercing the door panel.

Unlike external security products, an Internal Shield cannot be seen from outside the vehicle, making it an effective layer of hidden protection.

What Is an Internal Shield?

An Internal Shield is a reinforced steel plate fitted inside a van's side or rear door.

Its purpose is simple.

It blocks access to the door latch and locking mechanism, making it much harder for criminals to manipulate or release the lock after attacking the door skin.

Because the shield is installed inside the door, it remains completely hidden once fitted.

Why Do Criminals Target Door Latches?

Modern vans often contain thousands of pounds worth of tools and equipment.

Rather than attacking the lock itself, thieves frequently cut a small hole in the door skin near the latch.

They then insert a tool through the opening and operate the internal release mechanism.

This method is:

	Fast

	Quiet

	Difficult to notice immediately

Often completed in under a minute

An Internal Shield blocks this attack by preventing access to the latch.

Benefits of Internal Latch Shields

Adding an Internal Shield provides several advantages.

Hidden Security

The shield is fitted inside the door and cannot be seen from outside the vehicle.

Protects the Internal Latch

It creates a physical barrier between the outer door skin and the locking mechanism.

Helps Reduce Forced Entry

Attack methods that rely on cutting through the door become much less effective.

Works Alongside Other Security Products

Internal Shields complement products such as:

	Van deadlocks

	Slamlocks

	External handle shields

	Hook locks

	Replacement lock cylinders

	OBD protection

	Vehicle alarms

Layering multiple security products creates a much stronger defence than relying on one lock alone.

Which Doors Can Be Protected?

Internal Shields are available for many commercial vehicles and are commonly fitted to:

	Sliding side doors

	Rear barn doors

Rear tailgate doors on selected models

Vehicle-specific versions ensure the shield fits correctly without interfering with normal door operation.

Ideal for Trades and Fleets

Internal Shields are suitable for:

	Electricians

	Plumbers

	Builders

	Carpenters

	Heating engineers

	Delivery companies

	Utility contractors

	Fleet operators

If your van carries valuable equipment, hidden protection can make your vehicle a far less attractive target.

Part of a Complete Van Security System

No single product can eliminate vehicle theft.

The best protection comes from combining several security upgrades.

A complete van security setup may include:

	Deadlocks

	Slamlocks

	Internal Shields

	External handle protection

	Anti-peel kits

	OBD protection

	High-security replacement lock cylinders

Each layer increases the time and effort required to gain entry, encouraging opportunist thieves to move on.

Why Buy from Garrison Locks?

At Garrison Locks, we specialise in commercial vehicle security.

We supply professional van security products for many of the UK's most popular vans, helping businesses and individual tradespeople protect their vehicles and tools.

Whether you need hidden Internal Shields, replacement van locks or a complete security package, our team can help you choose the right solution.

Browse our range of Internal Van Latch Shields and add another layer of protection to your vehicle before thieves get the opportunity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an Internal Shield protect?

It protects the internal door latch and locking mechanism from being accessed after the outer door skin has been cut or pierced.

Can the shield be seen from outside the van?

No.

Do Internal Shields replace deadlocks?

No.

Are Internal Shields vehicle specific?

Yes.

Is an Internal Shield worth fitting?

If your van carries valuable tools, equipment or stock, an Internal Shield like the VW T7 series adds another effective layer of protection against one of the most common methods of forced entry.

ASEC Electric Releases | Mortice, Rim & Surface Electric Strikes

ASEC Electric Releases Explained: Choosing the Right Electric Strike for Your Access Control System

Electric releases are a key component of modern access control systems.

At Garrison Locks, we stock a comprehensive range of ASEC Electric Releases, including mortice releases, rim releases, surface-mounted electric releases, monitored electric releases, ANSI electric strikes and a wide selection of accessories.

What Is an Electric Release?

An electric release, often called an electric strike, replaces or works alongside a traditional strike plate in a door frame.

Electric releases are commonly connected to:

	Keypads

	Proximity card readers

	Fob readers

	Intercom systems

	Video entry systems

	Smart access control

	Push-to-exit buttons

	Fire alarm systems

When activated, the strike releases the latch, allowing authorised access without using a mechanical key.

Why Choose ASEC Electric Releases?

ASEC has built a reputation for supplying quality door hardware and security products that combine reliability with value for money.

The ASEC electric release range includes products suitable for:

	Timber doors

	Metal doors

	Aluminium doors

	Commercial entrances

	Apartment buildings

	Office doors

	Internal secure areas

	Access-controlled buildings

Whether you're installing a new system or replacing an existing electric strike, there's an ASEC model designed for the application.

Types of ASEC Electric Releases

Mortice Electric Releases

Mortice electric releases are recessed into the door frame, creating a clean, professional installation.

The ASEC range includes:

	Standard mortice releases

	Deep jaw mortice releases

	Hold-open electric releases

	Delayed action electric releases

	ANSI mortice releases

	Monitored mortice releases

These are commonly specified for commercial buildings where appearance and reliability are important.

Rim Electric Releases

Rim releases are designed for use with rim locks and rim exit devices.

ASEC offers several rim release options, including:

	Standard rim releases

	R12 rim releases

	A8 rim releases

	Compatible faceplates

	Open inwards faceplates

These are ideal for upgrading existing doors with electronic access control.

Surface Mounted Electric Releases

Surface-mounted models provide a practical solution where morticing the frame isn't possible.

Products such as the ASEC A1C Surface Release and ASEC A95C Surface Release are suitable for retrofit installations and can simplify installation while maintaining reliable performance.

Understanding Fail Locked and Fail Unlocked

One of the most important decisions when selecting an electric release is choosing the operating mode.

Fail Locked (Fail Secure)

A fail locked electric release remains locked if power is lost.

This option is commonly used on:

	External entrance doors

	Secure offices

	Server rooms

	Storage areas

	Restricted access locations

Security is maintained during power failure.

Fail Unlocked (Fail Safe)

A fail unlocked electric release automatically unlocks if power is interrupted.

This is commonly specified for:

	Emergency exits

	Escape routes

	Fire doors where appropriate

	Buildings requiring safe evacuation

Always ensure the selected operating mode complies with local fire regulations and building requirements.

Monitored Electric Releases

Monitored electric releases provide additional feedback to an access control system.

They can confirm whether:

	The door has been released

	The strike has operated correctly

The locking mechanism has changed status

This makes them suitable for larger commercial installations where system monitoring is essential.

Electric Release Accessories

Correct accessories help ensure a professional installation.

The ASEC range also includes:

	Mortice release faceplates

	Sash faceplates

	Rim release faceplates

	Release extension lips

	Replacement components

Using the correct faceplate improves alignment and ensures reliable operation over the life of the installation.

Typical Applications

ASEC electric releases are widely used across many sectors, including:

	Office buildings

	Apartment blocks

	Schools

	Universities

	Healthcare facilities

	Warehouses

	Industrial units

	Retail premises

Gate Closers Explained: Choosing the Right Solution for Your Property | Garrison Locks

Choosing the Right Gate Closer for Your Property

A reliable gate closer helps improve security, safety and convenience.

At Garrison Locks, we supply a wide range of gate closers designed for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Types of Gate Closers

Different environments require different gate closing systems.

From hydraulic gate closers to spring-loaded and gas-powered models, each option offers specific benefits depending on the installation.

Hydraulic Gate Closers

Hydraulic gate closers are a popular choice where controlled closing action is required.

These systems use hydraulic technology to provide a smooth and consistent closing motion.

Many hydraulic models feature adjustable settings, allowing installers to fine-tune closing speed and force to suit the gate and location.

Benefits include:

	Smooth and controlled closing action

	Reduced impact and gate damage

	Adjustable closing speed

Suitable for commercial and high-traffic areas

Spring Gate Closers

Spring-loaded gate closers provide a simple and effective automatic closing solution.

These closers use spring tension to return the gate to the closed position after opening.

Benefits include:

	Cost-effective solution

	Reliable performance

	Easy installation

Suitable for residential and light commercial use

Gas-Powered Gate Closers

Gas-powered gate closers combine smooth operation with strong closing performance.

Designed to cope with regular use, these systems provide controlled movement while helping maintain security.

Benefits include:

	Consistent closing action

	Durable construction

	Suitable for external applications

	Effective in high-use environments

Built for British Weather

Outdoor gate hardware must be able to withstand the UK's changing weather conditions.

Quality gate closers are manufactured using corrosion-resistant materials and protective finishes to help prevent rust and premature wear.

When choosing a gate closer, durability should be a key consideration, especially for external installations.

Adjustable Closing Force

Not every gate requires the same level of closing force.

Many modern gate closers offer adjustable settings that allow the closing speed and tension to be tailored to the gate size and application.

Whether fitted to a lightweight garden gate or a heavier commercial gate, adjustability can significantly improve performance.

Improving Security

A gate that reliably closes after use helps reduce security risks.

Automatic gate closers help prevent gates being left open accidentally and can support wider access control measures.

	Residential properties

	Schools and educational facilities

	Commercial premises

	Industrial sites

	Public access areas

Selecting the correct gate closer helps maintain security while improving day-to-day convenience.

Easy Installation and Low Maintenance

Many gate closers are designed for straightforward installation with minimal modifications required.

Once installed correctly, maintenance requirements are generally low.

Why Invest in a Quality Gate Closer?

A high-quality gate closer offers several advantages:

	Improved security and controlled access

Reduced wear on gates and hardware

	Reliable automatic closing

	Adjustable performance settings

	Long service life

	Weather-resistant construction

Preventing Rural Crime – Practical Tips to Protect Farms and Remote Properties

Rural crime continues to rise in the UK, with farms and remote properties often targeted due to their isolation, lack of surveillance, and high-value tools or vehicles.

1.

Start with physical protection.

Products like the ABUS Granit range or our own Garrison high-security padlocks are built for tough environments and resist bolt cutters, angle grinders, and corrosion.

2.

Many rural thefts involve forced entry to side doors, barn doors or windows.

We recommend TS007 3-star cylinders and heavy-duty UPVC handles for key access points.

4.

Thieves avoid light and noise.

Alarmed padlocks, smart sirens, and solar-powered security lights are ideal for remote areas where mains power isn’t available.

5.

Farm CCTV systems not only provide evidence but also act as a deterrent.

Place cameras near entrances, fuel tanks, storage units, and machinery sheds.

6.

Mark all tools and equipment with forensic marking kits, etchings, or UV pen identifiers.

Consider GPS trackers for larger vehicles or trailers.

Rural crime is opportunistic and preventable.

How to Accurately Identify Multipoint Door Handles

What types of multipoint door handles are there?

Garrison Locks stock a wide range of UPVC door handles.

LEVER/LEVER DOOR HANDLES.

Lever/Lever handles feature two inline, movable lever handles one on each side of the door.

LEVER / MOVEABLE PAD (INLINE)

An inline lever/pad handle is designed for multipoint locks with a split spindle gearbox.

LEVER / MOVEABLE PAD (OFFSET)

The offset lever/pad handle works with multipoint locks that have a double spindle.

LEVER / FIXED PAD

A fixed pad is used with keywind locks or in setups where the external handle shouldn’t operate the spindle.

HANDLE WITH INTERNAL SNIB BUTTON

A snib is a small switch or button on the handle that holds the latch back, keeping the door unlocked until it’s manually released.

What measurements do I need when choosing a replacement UPVC door handle?

What measurements do I need when choosing a replacement UPVC door handle?

To ensure a proper fit, you’ll need the following key measurements:

PZ (Centre to Centre) – Measure from the centre of the spindle (handle) to the centre of the keyhole.
Screw Centres – Distance between the fixing screws.
Backplate Length and Width – Measure the full size of the handle backplate.
Spindle Size – Check the spindle length and thickness (usually 8mm square).
Handle Type – Identify whether it’s lever/lever, lever/pad, fixed pad, etc.
Operation Type – Know if it’s for a split spindle, double spindle, or keywind lock.

Measure in millimetres for accuracy and compare to your current handle before ordering.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO FOLLOW:

When replacing a UPVC door handle, make sure the new handle matches the PZ measurement, screw centres, and has the same or larger backplate length.

Also, check that the handle is compatible with your door’s lock type, as many handles are designed for specific mechanisms.

How to Replace a Set of Multipoint Door Handles

Replacing a UPVC door handle is straightforward and requires just a few basic tools: a screwdriver, a drill, and your new handle.

Step 1 – Remove the Old Handle
Use a screwdriver to take out the screws securing the handle, usually found on both sides of the door near the handle.

Step 2 – Verify New Handle Measurements
Check the dimensions of your new handle to make sure it matches your door and will fit correctly.

Step 3 – Drill New Holes if Needed
If the new handle’s screw holes don’t align with the old ones, use a drill to make new holes in the door, ensuring they match the new handle’s screw positions.

Step 4 – Fit the New Handle
Slide the spindle through the door’s latch mechanism, align the handle with the screw holes, and secure it using the screws.

Step 5 – Test the Handle
Open and close the door several times to confirm the handle operates smoothly and the lock functions correctly.

At Garrison Locks we offer a complete and fully suitable range of UPVC Door handles.

Heading Away This Summer? Don’t Leave Your Home Security Behind

As summer holidays approach, many of us are preparing to switch off and relax.

Here are three often-overlooked but simple steps to reduce your risk while you’re away:

Lock Every Access Point!

This sounds obvious, but it’s often where people slip up.
Before you leave:

Check all doors and windows, including upstairs.
Lock sheds, garages, and side gates.
Don’t forget sliding patio doors or old style locks, these are common weak spots or areas.

A quality lock matters.

Be Quiet on Social Media.

It’s tempting to post airport selfies or sunny beach views.

Instead:

Wait until you’re back to share pictures.
Don’t mention travel plans in public posts or stories.
If you have a smart home system, consider using lights or blinds on timers to give the impression someone’s in.

Control Who Has a Key.

Can anyone get a copy of your front door key?
If your keys aren’t patented, it’s possible.

Switch to a patented key system:

Copies can only be made by authorised suppliers such as Garrison Locks
You stay in full control of who has access.
Ideal for families, rentals, or shared properties.

Keep security Simple, Keep It Consistent.

Security doesn’t have to be complicated.
A reliable, tamper resistant locking system and a few precautions can make the difference between a relaxing break and a stressful return.

If you’re unsure whether your locks are up to the job, we can help.

Before you leave, check all access points are secure!

Then switch off—and enjoy your holiday.

Understanding TS007 3 Star Cylinder Locks

BSI 3 Star Locks: Your Guide to Maximum Security Standards

If you work in the security trade, choosing the right cylinder lock isn’t just about how it works.

The Office for National Statistics reports that 67% of home burglaries in England and Wales happen through the front door.

With techniques like snapping, bumping, and drilling on the rise, the BSI 3 Star Kitemark (TS007) is now the go-to standard for high-security locks.

Why does TS007 & BSI 3 Star Standards Matter for Trade Installations

Key Security Standards to Meet

	PAS 24:2022
PAS 24:2022 is a UK standard that tests the security performance of doors and windows.
	Building Regulations – Part Q
Part Q applies to new residential buildings.
	Secured by Design (SBD)
SBD is a police-led initiative promoting products that meet tested security standards.

In any project where these standards apply, fitting a BSI 3-Star cylinder lock isn’t optional — it’s essential for compliance and effective protection.

What Makes a 3-Star Insurance Approved Lock?

 Test:
 Attack Method Resisted:

 TS007
Snapping, drilling, bumping, picking and plug extraction

 BS 3621
Thief-resistant mortice & euro cylinder standards

 BS EN 1303:2005
 Durability, corrosion, fire resistance

 PAS24
Full door set security under attack

BS 3621- Explained

BS 3621: What It Means for Lock Security

British Standard 3621 sets the benchmark for locks that can withstand common attacks like drilling and picking.

This standard applies to mortice deadlocks, euro deadlocks, sash locks, and cylinder locks that can be operated from both sides of the door — ensuring security inside and out.

With 67% of burglars entering through the front door, the lock is your first line of defence.

What is BS3621?

BS3621 is a quality mark for locks, showing they can resist common break-ins.

While not legally required, many insurance companies demand BS3621 locks for home policies.

If a lock doesn’t meet BS3621 standards, insurance might not cover stolen items or damages, leaving customers to pay and possibly unhappy with the service received from a locksmith.

How to Identify a BS3621 Lock

Find the BSI Kitemark: Look for a distinctive heart-shaped symbol with an “S” inside it on the profile of the cylinder (the part where you insert the key).

This BSI Kitemark proves the lock has passed strict testing.

What Makes a Cylinder BS3621 Certified?

A cylinder lock itself can’t be BS3621 certified — the BS3621 certification applies to a complete lock assembly, not just the cylinder.

Here’s what makes a complete lock (including the cylinder) BS3621 certified:

The lock must be key-operated from both inside and outside.

No thumbturns on the inside — both sides must require a key.

The lock must include a deadbolt with a minimum throw (typically 20mm).
The lock must resist forced entry techniques, including:

 Drilling
 Picking
 Sawing
 Manipulation

Cylinder security matters — the cylinder used must be:

 Anti-pick
 Anti-drill
 Anti-bump
Snap-resistant (in newer updates like BS3621:2007 onwards)

The entire lock assembly (case + cylinder) must be tested and certified together by an accredited body like the British Standards Institution (BSI) and bear the kitemark.

BS EN 1303: 2005 – Explained

BS EN 1303:2005 – Lock Cylinder Classification

BS EN 1303:2005 is a European standard that rates lock cylinders across eight areas: usage, durability, door weight, fire resistance, safety, corrosion and temperature resistance, key security, and attack resistance.

To meet door security standards, there are two main compliance routes.

PAS24- Explained

The Publicly Available Specification is overseen by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and provides testing standards for the security performance of windows and doors when under attack.

TS007 – What does the TS007 standard cover?

TS007 – Flexible Options for Achieving 3-Star Door Security

TS007 allows locksmiths and installers to mix and match components to improve door security.

Rather than prescribing a single solution, TS007 provides two clear paths to compliance:

Option 1: Upgrade the lock cylinder to a 3-star rated model.
Option 2: Combine a 1-star cylinder with 2-star rated security hardware (such as reinforced handles).

Use the table below to see how different combinations can meet the TS007 3-star requirement.

 1 Star Cylinder
 +2 Star Security Hardware
 = 3 Stars ***
 3 Star Cylinder
 = 3 Stars ***

 1 Star Rating
To earn this rating, a Cylinder must meet the security standards of BS 3621:2007 and some key requirements from BS EN 1303:2005.

 2 Star Rating

How to Choose the Right Van Deadlocks for Better Security

Is there a particular van dead lock that better than most?

How to choose the right van deadlocks.

Why Van Deadlocks should be used.

Van doors are common targets for thieves because standard locks can be forced or picked.

What to Consider When Choosing Van Deadlocks.

	Van Make and Model Compatibility
Different vans have different door designs and lock systems.

Ford Transit (including Transit Custom and Transit Connect) — Requires deadlocks designed for rear and side doors unique to the model year.
Volkswagen Transporter — Needs a specific deadlock fit that matches the sliding side door and rear door configuration.
Mercedes Sprinter — Often uses heavier-duty locks suitable for larger commercial vehicles.
Nissan NV200 and Vauxhall Vivaro — These smaller vans have specific deadlock options designed to fit their door frames.

How to Choose the Right Van Deadlocks for Better Security

When it comes to protecting your van and its contents, knowing how to choose the right van deadlocks is essential.

Make sure you choose deadlocks that fit your exact van make, model, and year to ensure proper installation and maximum security.

	Material Quality
Choose deadlocks made from solid steel or hardened materials.
	Locking Mechanism
Van deadlocks generally come in two types:

	Key-operated deadlocks — Require a separate key to lock/unlock.
Electronic deadlocks — Operate via remote control or vehicle central locking system.

	Installation Process
Some deadlocks can be fitted as a DIY project, especially if the product comes with clear instructions and necessary fixings.
	Security Ratings
Look for deadlocks that meet security standards such as Sold Secure or TS007.
	Compatibility with Existing Locks
Your new deadlocks should work alongside your van’s factory locks without interfering with them.
	Price vs Value
While it might be tempting to choose the cheapest option, investing in a reputable deadlock ensures better durability and security.
